Farming
The farmland lies in the Usk Valley and extends above the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal into the Brecon Beacons National Park. The land varies from Usk alluvial soils to hill land.
You will see arable, dairy, beef and sheep enterprises, some of which are organic. We encourage farm practices which promote conservation and good soil management.
Conservation and the Environment
The farm has adopted a regenerative system which integrates livestock into the arable rotation, prioritising soil & animal health.
The focus on conservation and the environment influences decision making.
Pedigree Stabiliser cows
There is a herd of Pedigree stabiliser cows which have been selected for their genetic traits. These include excellent mothering instincts, calm characters, high feed efficiency and the ability to be outwintered.
The high quality meat regularly achieves optimum grades from grass, herbal leys, oats and barley grown locally.
Black Welsh Mountain Sheep
Llanover has one of the oldest flocks of Black Welsh Mountain sheep which dates back to c1840 when Lady Llanover bought pedigree livestock from West Wales.
The original bloodlines have been kept with the flock being closed for breeding females. Prize winning rams have been carefully selected to improve the flock.
In 2021 the flock was awarded ‘The Thomas M Davies Perpetual Trophy’ for BWMSBA Best Large Flock 2021 and achieved second place in BWMSBA Pair of Breeding Ewes
Black Welsh Mountain boxed lamb and mutton – Grass reared, free-range lambs available to order as a whole or 1/2 lamb.
Breeding stock is occasionally available for sale.
